E-mail message

E-mail Template

Before you can start sending out paid e-mail, you will need to alter the standard e-mail template to suit your requirements. Here are some suggested modifications you can carry out to make the basic template more appealing to members, and to comply with local laws where applicable.

"No Spam" Message

To put the members' minds at ease, you should put the following header (or a variant of it) at the very top of your e-mail:

Please do not reply to this e-mail - mail sent to this address cannot be answered. THIS IS NOT SPAM. You are receiving this e-mail message because you have subscribed to the (Yoursite.com) opt-in mailing list.

"Support our advertisers" message

It is a good idea to put in a paragraph that stresses how important it is for the member to support the advertisers, something like this:

Dear (Yoursite.com) Member,

                                      By clicking on these sponsor links, visiting the sites, and purchasing goods and services, you are ensuring that (Yoursite.com) will be able to send you lots of e-mails to earn from in the future. Please support the advertisers if you can - thank you.

You can in fact replace "(Yoursite.com) Member" with the special tag <FIRSTNAME>, and this will insert the member's first name into the e-mail, but bear in mind that e-mail personalized like this will take longer to send, because of the extra load imposed on the server.

Other tags that you could insert are:

<OWED>

<CASH_BALANCE>

<POINT_BALANCE>

<LASTNAME>

<EMAIL>

<USERNAME>

<ENCRYPTEDPW>

<SIGNUPDATE>

<SIGNUPIPPROXY>

The actual advertiser's message would come next, and after the clickable paid link, you would insert something like:

Thank you for clicking, and enjoy the rest of your day!

-(Your name,) webmaster (Yoursite.com).

Legally Required Opt-Out Message

In some countries, webmasters may be required by law to provide an e-mail opt-out message, something along these lines:

You can unsubscribe from our e-mail list at any time, by clicking on the Cancel Account button on your Profile page, or by sending an e-mail to (support@yoursite.com). You will forfeit all earnings accrued up to the date you cancelled. We will remove your details from our database as soon as possible, but you may still receive a few mails for a short period between your request and the time the account is actually removed.

The Finished Template

As a final touch, I have separated the legal messages and the actual e-mail ad with a row of underscore characters (you could also use asterisks). The entire e-mail will look something like this when viewed by the member:

Please do not reply to this e-mail - mail sent to this address cannot be answered. THIS IS NOT SPAM. You are receiving this e-mail message because you have subscribed to the (Yoursite.com) opt-in mailing list.

Dear (Yoursite.com) Member,

                                         By clicking on these sponsor links, visiting the sites, and purchasing goods and services, you are ensuring that (Yoursite.com) will be able to send you lots of e-mails to earn from in the future. Please support the advertisers - thank you.
