Glossary
Some of the terms used in the "Get Paid
To" industry can be a little baffling when
you first come across them, so we have explained
some of them here, along with some of the Cash
Crusader Admin functions.

A
Add-on: a piece of software (usually
written by a third party) that can be used with
Cash Crusader to give it extra functionality. It
is not accessed by means of the Admin area, but
integrates seamlessly with the rest of the script.
Admin: The central control area in Cash
Crusader (and other GPT programs), where the
owner carries out day to day tasks.
Affiliate: A person who places
advertising on his or her website, and is paid a
commission for sales, leads or clicks by the
merchant, via an
affiliate network.
Autosurf: A form of internet advertising
("Paid to Surf"), in which a series of websites are shown
one after the other, with a timed interval between each
one. Members get paid for viewing the sites,
and can also buy exposures for their own affiliate
URLs. Cash Crusader has an autosurf facility, but
as this type of advertising is now out of favor,
we do not cover it in detail here.
If however you are interested in starting your own
paid-to-surf site, a comprehensive, stand-alone autosurf script is available from
Scripts-R-Us.
B
Bad Turing Clicks Report: A section in
Admin for determining which members are either
clicking the wrong Turing Numbers, or using
automated click software to try and cheat the
system. Banner Impressions: A form of
on-site advertising in which an advertisers banner
is displayed for a pre-determined amount of time
(typically 30 or 60 days), with no
limitation on the number of impressions shown.
Blocking Options: A section in Admin,
which allows the site owner to block certain
browsers, e-mail addresses, domains, IPs and host
names.
C
Cashback: A method of rewarding
members with a fixed amount, or a percentage of
sale price, when they purchase goods and services
from a third party through your on-site links. Cashout
(or Cash-Out): When applied to site members, the act of withdrawing money from
your account. Click Climbing Contest: a
plug-in function that allows you to create
"Top Clicker" contests on your site.
Click Counters: Special registers within
Cash Crusader that keep track of the clicks made
by each site member. There are separate click
counters for cash, points, referrals and total
number of clicks. These can all be reset at any
time by the site owner if necessary.
Cookie: A piece of
information which a web server can store
temporarily in a web browser, and download to the
hard-drive for later retrieval. This is useful for
having the browser remember some specific
information, e.g. a password.
D Downline:
If you are a member of a PTR or PTC site, your
downline consists of other members who
have joined through your coded referral links.
They continue to earn you referral bonuses for as
long as they remain members.
G GIF (Graphics
Interchange Format): A graphics file format,
commonly used for website images, using the .gif
file extension. Suitable for images with sharp
edges, and relatively few gradations of color,
such as line art and text. J
JPEG or JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group):
Term for an image file commonly used for
website images, typically photographs and high
definition picture files.
K Keywords:
In the sense of members e-mail subject interests
(which they select on their Profile Page), these
are words and phrases such as "Home and
Garden", "Motoring",
"Shopping", etc. They are used to
determine which e-mails are sent through to
members' inboxes. Keywords are also special
words and phrases, separated by commas, that are
inserted into the header of your pages, to help
give your site a better ranking in the search
engine results. M Membership Types: Admin
function, used to create, edit and delete the
various types of membership available on your
site. These could include Bronze, Silver, and Gold
memberships, with relevant referral levels for
each type, Pending (see Getting Started),
and Normal membership. O Opt-in Mailing
List: All members of PTR sites belong to an
opt-in mailing list. It is simply a roll of users
who have agreed to receive paid e-mails on a
regular basis. Contrast this with spam, which is
unwanted e-mail sent to your inbox without your
permission, in an attempt to sell you something. P
Plug-in: A piece of software, which has
been specially designed to add extra functionality
to a Cash Crusader site. It is accessed via the
Admin area under the heading "Plug-ins".
PTR or "Paid to Read": Another
term for a "Get Paid To" website. Also
stands for Paid to Review, another earning
section in Cash Crusader, whereby members get paid
a small amount for reviewing a web site, writing
down their opinion, and rating it on a scale of 1
to 5. PTSU
or "Paid to Sign Up": a
section of a "Get Paid To" website which pays members a
small amount for signing up to newsletters, free
services, etc. Purge Old Accounts: Admin
function which allows the total removal of
suspended or deleted accounts from the database. R
Referral: a person who has been
recruited as a member of a PTR site by an existing
member of that site.
S Search Ads: These
are ads which feature sites where the user can
search for just about any product or service they
desire. Because not all members will want to
receive this type of site link, you can offer
"Search Ads" as a separate ad option on
your advertising page, and as an e-mail subject
option on the members' Profile pages.
Site Offline Setting: Admin function
that allows you to upload a customizable
"Site Offline" page, to temporarily take
the place of your normal home page. Useful when you are
on vacation, or need to make some changes to your
site.
T
Targeting: A method of ensuring that
paid e-mail is sent to one (or a number of)
selected countries, and/or selected subject
interests. Turing Number: A
randomly generated security number, used to help
combat cheats (see Anti-Cheat Settings
section for full details). U Unlicensed Site: A
PTR site that has been set up using a pirated
copy, or
otherwise illegally-obtained version of the site
script. Upline: Basically a downline in
reverse (q.v.). If you are a site member, your
upline includes the person who referred you, the
people who in turn referred them, and so on. V Vacation Mode: A Cash Crusader
facility that allows members to place their
accounts on hold, should they be away for long
periods of time. They will not earn any money from
their referrals while their accounts are in
Vacation mode. That
concludes the guide - if you do decide to go ahead
with your own site, Good Luck, and enjoy your
experiences! END.
